About Certification
Issues of selectivity and impacts on non-target salmon populations in modern day commercial fisheries are causing us to rethink how we can continue to receive benefits from these fisheries, while ensuring we protect salmon diversity and resiliency. This is especially important with the growing impacts and uncertainty climate change is having on salmon in their southern range, including the Skeena River. As a result, SkeenaWild Salmon Incorporated has developed a certification program to identify and promote those fisheries using methods that minimize impacts on non-target salmon species, and harvest individual populations at levels which ensure their continued survival and health.
